This is the view from where I sit right now. The snow is falling swiftly. There is a big-ass truck in my rear view mirror. I am headed to Blowing Rock for a work lunch. Then, I have just a bit of office work before I head down the mountain. Let’s hope I make it down!

Ah yes… Just another day in my hybrid… Wearing the amazing bracelets Kate sent me from San Francisco… Sigh.

I am in love with a man

Who has naturally wavy hair. Who rarely wears a baseball cap, but when he does, it’s cute and boyish. Who pulls me closer if he wakes up in the middle of the night and I’ve managed to wiggle away. Who makes up rap songs about my dog. Who buys me pink things because he knows I like them. Who has vowed to change his eating patterns, because i’m trying to change mine. Who takes Ruby out in the mornings so I can get some extra snooze time. Who has dinner waiting when I come in late. Who is an incredible son, brother, friend and partner. I am in love with a man who earns my respect everyday. Who makes me feel so very lucky… because he… Loves… Me.

It is morning in Chapel Hill

I am on the road for work. Three meetings remain today and tomorrow. Last night, before sleep came, the fellow and I moseyed over to a local watering hole to see the friends I hung out with almost daily before I made my move up the mountain 7 months ago. They are always getting into something, that crew. Last night’s adventure included a name-drawing Christmas gift swap. Someone got a Snuggie. Someone got a reading light. Someone got a writing pad specifically designed to give folks a “bitch citation.” I had a lot of fun randomly yelling out the categories listed on that pad. “You! You are a knuckle-dragging bitch! And you are a mouth-breathing bitch!” I don’t really use the word bitch so much. So that was part of the humor. Everytime I said it, I felt like little Sally Sue Prissy Pants saying it for the first time and wondering if I would get caught. Someone else got an egg roll from the mall food court. As a Christmas gift. And I got to sit around a table with eleven familiar faces. And laugh about honey mustard dressing, mistaken police encounters, snuggies, egg rolls and bitches. Happy holidays, y’all!

Sometimes we kiss in the snow.

Sometimes we kiss in the snow.

Live.  “White, Discussion.”  Circa 1994.  Mmmmmmmmmmm.  Ed Kowalczyk.

Tonight, I’m just posting some of my all-time favorite songs.

Speaking of songs which have had a huge impact on me, this is another one. They are a strange band, but goodness I love their passion.

Toadies.  “Tyler.”  Circa 1994.  I was 13.  I still play this entire album weekly.

This is one of the songs that changed my life.  I started listening to it religiously in 1992.  I was 11 years old.  I still listen to it regularly.  At least once a month on my iPod, usually more.  This song has been in my life for 17 years.  I’d say that makes it a pretty solid number, wouldn’t you?

Fifteen years ago today, the world lost another great musician.
Here is Shannon Hoon doing an acoustic version of my favorite Blind Melon song, Change.

I love Damien Rice.  And I love these lyrics.  They are just haunting.  I took the liberty of looking them up, so that… if you want and the mood hits you just right… you can read along as he sings.  Then, if I were you, I’d replay the song and listen with your eyes closed.  For good measure.

Damien Rice— “Delicate”

We might kiss when we are alone
When nobody’s watching
We might take it home
We might make out when nobody’s there
It’s not that we’re scared
It’s just that it’s delicate

So why’d you fill my sorrows
With the words you’ve borrowed
From the only place you’ve known
And why’d ya sing Hallelujah
If it means nothing to you
Why’d you sing with me at all?

We might live like never before
When there’s nothing to give
Well how can we ask for more
We might make love in some sacred place
The look on your face is delicate

So why’d you fill my sorrow
With the words you’ve borrowed
From the only place that you’ve known
And why’d you sing Hallelujah
If it means nothing to you
Why’d you sing with me at all?

And why’d you fill my sorrows
With the words you’ve borrowed
From the only place that you’ve known
Why’d you sing Hallelujah
If it means nothing to you
Why’d you sing with me at all?
